AMPANG, SELANGOR -  On May 21, 2022, Saturday, the K17 Zoolunteering Program took place at the National Zoo. The program took place from 7.00 am to 4.30 pm. This program is organized by the Secretariat of Green Cheerfulness and Sustainability, College Representative Council, College of Seventeen session 2021/2022.

 

The purpose of the K17 Zoolunteering Program is to give students the opportunity to learn about the care of an animal in captivity more closely thanks to the guidance given by experts on animal handling in terms of animal safety, health, comfort and well -being. The K17 Zoolunteering program involved 39 participants from the College of Seventeen along with 12 program monitors. The program began with a briefing at Square 17 before leaving for the National Zoo. Upon arrival at the National Zoo, students are picked up by the National Zoo Learning Officer and given a safety briefing before being divided into groups set by the Zoological Duty Officer. Among the volunteer activities that have been assigned are painting, sweeping the barn area and cleaning the aquarium. Upon completion of the assigned assignments, students are given time for lunch. Next, a photography session with the participants at the entrance of the National Zoo was held. Then, students are given the opportunity to explore the National Zoo area for two hours before heading back to College 17. Through this program, awareness in students can be nurtured to become a person who cares about animal welfare. Students can also train themselves to be human beings who are grateful for the beauty of life on earth from this volunteer activity.

 

Thousands of thanks are extended to the participants as well as the National Zoo for making the K17 Zoolunteering program a success. Hopefully the value of love for animals and knowledge imparted through the program can be practiced and applied by the participants for future use.
