OCEAN ACTION

TANJUNG TUAN 14-15 May 2022 - Congratulations to the community of Kolej Tujuh Belas who participated in the Ocean Action program in conjunction with the Clean and Beautiful Malaysia Voluntourism Program: Greening Malaysia held at the Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve. Ocean Action is a new volunteering program jointly organized by the Secretariat of Volunteerism and Mobility, the Secretariat of Green Cheerfulness and Sustainability, and the Secretariat of Alumni and Careers, College Representative Council, College Seventeen session 2021/2022.

The program themed "Preserving the Environment" aims to provide exposure to students of the Seventeenth College on the importance of preserving the environment and caring for marine life through beach clean-up activities. In addition, the program holds the objective of exposing students in learning the importance of conservation of life on land by replanting mangrove trees. Cooperation has been established with several government agencies to make this program a success, including the Melaka State Forestry Department and the Negeri Sembilan Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPSNS). Cooperative support was also received from the Faculty of Forestry and Environment and the Alumni Relations Center with the involvement of UPM alumni who specialize in forestry.

The main activities for the Ocean Action program themed 'Preserving the Environment' are beach cleaning and replanting of 200 units of mangrove saplings. The objective of this program is to instill a sense of responsibility among the students of the Seventeenth College to take care of marine life through beach clean -up activities implemented. In addition, another objective of this program is to produce students who are able to provide information on the importance of conserving mangrove swamp forests through photography and infographic competitions after the mangrove tree planting activities are over. In addition, students can increase their knowledge on how to plant and the benefits of planting mangrove trees. Apart from that, this activity has also received coverage from MELAKA TODAY.
