Seminar on Technology, Sustainability and Regulations in Animal Feed Industry

SERDANG, 9 November 2024 - The Secretariat for Green Sustainability and Food Security, Kolej Tan Sri Mustaffa Babjee (KTMB), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with the Malaysian Veterinary Medical Association (MAVMA), Alltech Biotechnology Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UPM, organized an international program titled the Seminar on Technology, Sustainability, and Regulations in the Animal Feed Industry at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia. A total of 80 students from Universiti Putra Malaysia, 100 industry representatives, and participants from Thailand attended this seminar.

This seminar provided an excellent opportunity for students, academics, local and international industry players, and policymakers to engage in discussions to enhance innovation and sustainability in the animal feed sector. There were four presentation sharing slots and one forum session conducted by industry experts from various organizations, such as the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia (DVS), Alltech, MAVMA, The Malaysian Animal Health and Nutrition Industries Association (MAHNIA), consultants from the Faculty of Agriculture, UPM, and speakers from China and Thailand. The program was sponsored by Alltech Biotechnology Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.

The program director, second-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student Fa’iqah Nayli binti Muhammad Fuad, said, “we took this opportunity to learn from experts who shared knowledge on technology, sustainable practices, and essential regulatory frameworks that drive this sector forward.”

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Nurul Hayah Khairuddin, Principal of KTMB, said, “students are exposed to the realities of working in the animal feed industry, from technological and sustainability aspects that shape production methods to regulatory compliance that ensures food safety and environmental responsibility.”

With this seminar, participants gained insights into the rapidly evolving field of animal feed technology and explore how regulatory measures can contribute to a more sustainable and responsible industry. Programs like this should also be continued to provide opportunities for interaction between the industry, responsible authorities, and experts, while at the same time offering participants more knowledge.
