SUKAN RAKYAT (SURAK) PIALA TAN SRI MUSTAFFA BABJEE 2024

SERDANG, 18 Jan 2024 - on 7 January 2024, the culture and Arts Secretariat organised the 2024 Tan Sri Mustaffa Babjee Cup people's Sports Programme (SURAK) at Tan Sri Mustaffa Babjee College. SURAK 2024 is a competition that uses a league system and aims to uncover students ' talents in traditional sports and at the same time raise the value of high cooperation in teams while competing healthily. This traditional sports competition has involved 9 residential colleges of Universiti Putra Malaysia.

The Program has started as early as 8.00 am with the registration of students for each event. In contrast to SURAK 2023, where only 8 traditional sports were contested, SURAK 2024 has contested a total of 10 events to promote and introduce traditional sports more effectively to UPM students. Among the sports that will be contested at SURAK 2024 are dam aji, tug of war, main guli and also congkak. SURAK 2024 was also lively with artistic activities led by 4 students from the Arustika Putrasakti Club, Kolej Tan Sri Mustaffa Babjee. Next, the events started simultaneously at 9.00 am.

SURAK 2024 was further graced with food and beverage sales by 8 food trucks operated by the entrepreneurship Secretariat, College Representative Council, Kolej Tan Sri Mustaffa Babjee. Foodtruck sales throughout the SURAK 2024 program have become one of the main attractions for this program. Students will have the opportunity to purchase food and drinks when they are finished competing in their event. Among the foods sold in SURAK 2024 are satay, churros, Takoyaki and also briyani rice. This food sale can benefit KMB students and can also be an attraction for other college students to visit KMB.

The SURAK 2024 Program was also lively with busking performances by KMB students. This busking show has been going on for almost 2 hours in the afternoon. At the closing ceremony, SURAK 2024 was enlivened and graced again with the presence of YBrs. Prof. Associate Dr. Amini Amir bin Abdullah, chairman of the congregation of principals of residential colleges, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He also participated in the main marbles of the principals and subsequently inaugurated the SURAK 2024 program. Also present to enliven the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Aminuddin Hassan, Principal Of Tun Dr Ismail College, Prof. Associate Ir. Dr. Ahmad Shukri Muhammad Noor, Principal Of Tan Sri Aishah Ghani College, Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Zuha Wan Hasan, principal of college Ten and Prof. Associate Dr. Mohd Mursyid Bin Arshad, Principal Of Sultan Aleddin Suleiman Shah College. In addition, the line-up of fellows and presidents of residential colleges of Universiti Putra Malaysia also attended to enliven the ceremony. Kolej Tan Sri Aisyah Ghani (KTAG) has received the highest cumulative score, making them the overall champion of SURAK 2024.

Thank you to the participants and all parties involved in the success of the Tan Sri Mustaffa Babjee Cup 2024 people's sports program (SURAK). It is hoped that through this program, it can foster interest and love for the culture and traditions of the country in addition to being able to apply the spirit of sportsmanship in students. Hopefully the cheer program will be able to run again in the future.
