SERDANG, 5th July 2025 – The Secretariat of Green Sustainability and Food Security, Kolej Tan Sri Mustaffa Babjee (KTMB), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with the KTMB College Management, successfully organised the Sustainability Spotlight programme virtually through Facebook Live on Kolej Tan Sri Mustaffa Babjee’s official page. A total of 300 university students from KTMB participated in the programme.
This programme aimed to expose university students to a greener and more sustainable lifestyle on campus. It featured two sharing slots over two days, focusing on sustainability-related topics, including eco-friendly transportation on campus and the benefits of ornamental plants for mental wellbeing.
The first slot, titled "Green Transportation for a Sustainable Campus and a Greener Future", held on 9 April 2025, was delivered by guest speaker Prof. Ir. Dr. Hasfalina Che Man, Professor at the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, UPM. Her session focused on the use of green transportation to build a more sustainable campus and encouraged the adoption of green energy in daily life.
The second slot, titled "Ornamental Plants: A Natural Therapy for Students", was held on 10 April 2025 and presented by guest speaker Puan Amirah Hazwani Binti Bakri, a Psychology Officer from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The session highlighted the benefits of ornamental plants in improving students' mental health and environment. It emphasised plant therapy, the psychological effects of interacting with plants, and increased productivity in the workplace.
It is hoped that this programme has enhanced understanding of the importance of preserving the environment and nurtured a culture of mental wellness through the knowledge of ornamental plants as a natural form of therapy.
