KMB MANAGEMENT VISIT APSS INCREASE KNOWLEDGE ON PADDY FIELDS CULTIVATION

TANJUNG KARANG, 22 Feb – In an effort to support environmental sustainability, the Management of Tan Sri Mustaffa Babjee College (KMB) UPM has made an academic visit to the Agro-Pelanagan Sawah Sempadan (APSS) site, Tanjung Karang, Selangor.

The visit was led by Principal of KMB, Prof. Associate Dr. Jasronita Jasni was welcomed by the Deputy Chairman of Agro Tourism Sawah Sempadan (APSS), Prof. Dr. Sidek Abd. Aziz or mesra is called Wak Sidek who is also a former UPM lecturer.

Through this visit, the APSS provided knowledge transfer and shared with the KMB management the daily routine of rice field operators and agricultural activities in the local area.

Prof. Associate Dr. Jasronita said in addition to rice cultivation as the main industry of the local community, the swiftlet breeding industry to obtain bird's nests as well as the cultivation and production of fresh sugarcane water are also among the sources of added value for the residents here.

"The community here is also active in carrying out activities related to the environment such as gotong-royong and recycling. Recycled goods are also sold as souvenirs for tourists and can be an additional source of income for the local community."

"In future planning, KMB students will plan community service programs and knowledge sharing with the community so that both parties benefit from each other" she said.

She hopes that this visit will be a starting point that provides a positive impact as well as a continuous relationship from time to time in the future. -UPM
